Why excess abdominal fat is more DEADLY than you think

Did you know that the vast majority of people in this day and age have excess abdominal fat? The first thing that most people think of is that their extra abdominal fat is simply ugly, is covering up their abs from being visible, and makes them self conscious about showing off their body.

However, what most people don't realize is that excess abdominal fat in particular, is not only ugly, but is also a dangerous risk factor to your health. Scientific research has clearly demonstrated that although it is unhealthy in general to have excess body fat throughout your body, it is also particularly dangerous to have excess abdominal fat.

There are two types of fat that you have in your abdominal area. The first type that covers up your abs from being visible is called subcutaneous fat and lies directly beneath the skin and on top of the abdominal muscles.

The second type of fat that you have in your abdominal area is called visceral fat, and that lies deeper in the abdomen beneath your muscle and surrounding your organs. Visceral fat also plays a role in giving certain men that "beer belly" appearance where their abdomen protrudes excessively but at the same time, also feels sort of hard if you push on it.

Both subcutaneous fat and visceral fat in the abdominal area are serious health risk factors, but science has shown that having excessive visceral fat is even more dangerous than subcutaneous fat. Both of them greatly increase the risk your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea, various forms of cancer, and other degenerative diseases.

Part of the reason visceral fat is particularly dangerous is that it apparently releases more inflammatory molecules into your body on a consistent basis.
If you care about the quality of your life and your loved ones, reducing your abdominal fat should be one of your TOP priorities! There's just no way around it. Besides, a side-effect of finally getting rid of all of that excessive ugly abdominal fat is that your stomach will flatten out, and if you lose enough stomach fat, you will be able to visibly see those sexy six pack abs that everyone wants.
So what gets rid of extra abdominal fat? Is there actually a REAL solution beyond all of the gimmicks and hype that you see in ads and on commercials for "miracle" fat loss products?

The first thing you must understand is that there is absolutely NO quick fix solution. There are no pills or supplements of any sort that will help you lose your abdominal fat faster. Also, none of the gimmicky ab rockers, rollers, or ab belts will help get rid of abdominal fat either. You can't spot reduce your stomach fat by using any of these worthless contraptions. It simply doesn't work that way.

The ONLY solution to consistently lose your abdominal fat and keep it off for good is to combine a sound nutritious diet full of unprocessed natural foods with a properly designed strategic exercise program that stimulates the necessary hormonal and metabolic response within your body. Both your food intake as well as your training program are important if you are to get this right.

I've actually even seen a particular study that divided thousands of participants into a diet-only group and an exercise/diet group. While both groups in this study made good progress, the diet-only group lost significantly LESS abdominal fat than the diet & exercise combined group.

Deviled Crab Cakes

One of my passions is cooking, so I enrolled in Culinary School and graduated about 1 1/2 year ago. I recently made this recipe for a gathering I had about 2 weeks ago. It was the hit of the party. Everyone continues to ask me for the recipe, so I wanted to share it with you all. Enjoy!

Yields: 10 servings

Butter 4 ounces
Onions, minced 1 ounce
Celery, minced 1 ounce
Red peppers, minced 1 1/2 ounces
Flour 3 1/2 ounces
Fish Stock 10 fluid ounces (I used chicken stock)
Crabmeat, cleaned 1 1/2 pounds
Old Bay Seasoning 1/2 teaspoon
Salt, to tast 1/2 teaspoon
Cayenne, to taste 1/4 teaspoon
Parsley, chopped 1 tablespoon
Flour for dredging 2 ounces
Egg wash 6 fluid ounces
Bread Crumbs for coating 6 ounces

1. Saute onion, clery and pepper in butter.

2. Add flour and cook 2 to 3 minutes.

3. Incorporate fish stock and crabmeat; bring to a simmer, stirring constantly.

4. Cook 5 minutes, add seasonings; chill.

5. Shape into ten cakes, dredge in flour.

6. Dip cakes in egg wash, then dredge in bread crumbs.

7. Deep-fry at 350 F (175 C) until golden brown; drain on absorbent toweling

Need vs Want

Is it a need or a want? This is one of the most basic principles of economics and such a simple question, but a very important one to ask before you make any purchase.
A need is something that you can’t live without. Obvious examples of needs include clothing, food, and shelter. Conversely, a want is something you would like to have. It is not absolutely necessary, but you have an overwhelming desire to obtain it.
The utility of this question isn’t best used with these obvious examples. You need to apply the principle to situations where the line between need vs. want begins to blur.
I had a co-worker whom I used to ask the “needs vs. wants” question all the time. This particular person had an absolutely horrible time with money. He didn’t have any discipline when it came to things like digital music, DVD movies, and video games. He would argue that he needed these things to live because they made him happy and reduced his level of stress. I would counter that perhaps he was stressed because of all his money problems and perhaps he should limit his purchases. He wasn’t able to see the difference between need and want.
The distinction between need and want can begin to blur, but it should still be easy to make the determination between need and want. The philosophic principle behind these two basic opposing elements is called dualism. Dualism is any theory or system of thought that involves the existence of two fundamental classes of things or principles which are often in opposition to each other. Need vs. want. You need to make this distinction.
Some items are both needs and wants. For example a car is a need for most working adults. Let’s say you are eyeing a new Acura, but your 10 year old Civic stills runs flawlessly. One could argue that you need a car to survive but on the flip side your current car still runs like a champ. And do you really need an expensive car like an Acura? Why not buy another Civic since the last one treated you so well?
I suppose this principle could be applied to your diet too. You need to eat protein, vitamins, and minerals to live and how you obtain them is up to you. You can eat well or you can eat garbage – the choice is up to you.
The next time you go to buy yourself something extravagant or indulge in your favorite junk food, ask yourself – Is this something I need or something I want?
